The islands of the Lower Keys are the place for you.
The Lower Keys begins shortly after the famous Seven Mile Bridge.
It is a quiet region of small resorts, down-home restaurants, single-family homes and rich history.
Here, you can snorkel or dive over the Looe Key coral reef,
ride a bicycle through Key Deer country, or take a fishing adventure in the back country or troll the deep blue waters
beyond the reef.
Visit the area's tiki bars, RV parks, campgrounds, quaint resorts or licensed vacation homes.

Nearby, you will find Bahia Honda State Park and Recreation Area at mile marker 37.
With its white sandy beaches and wildlife, Bahia Honda Key often makes the list of most beautiful beaches in America.

Big Pine Key, at mile marker 33, is the main shopping hub of the Lower Keys.
The Lower Keys are an oasis in a mad and rushed world.

Deer Key

Deer Key, Florida

Take an evening ride through Deer Key and look at the minature deer.
The National Key Deer Refuge was established in 1957 to protect and preserve Key deer and
other wildlife resources in the Florida Keys. The refuge consists of approximately 9,200 acres
of land that includes pine rockland forests, tropical hardwood hammocks, freshwater wetlands,
salt marsh wetlands, and mangrove forests. These natural communities are critical habitat for
hundreds of endemic and migratory species including 17 federally-listed species such as Key deer,
lower Keys marsh rabbit, and silver rice rat. See if you can find the peacock that runs the streets of Deer Key.

Key West

Key West

Stroll the palm-lined streets and discover gingerbread mansions, tin-roofed conch houses, the
John Audubon House and Ernest Hemingway's home.  Walk in the footsteps of Thomas Edison,
Lou Gehrig, Harry Truman, and Tennessee Williams. Gaze at the fabled treasure of the galleon
Atocha. Visit these and a host of other attractions by taking advantage of convenient public
transportation, taxis, pedi-cabs, tour trains, trolleys, bicycles or even your own two feet.
Once the sun is safely tucked away by jugglers, mimes, musicians and street artists. At night, the
streets, filled with sidewalk cafes, open-air bars, legendary pubs and world-class restaurants come alive.
Drama, musicals and comedy flourish on our stages.  Stop by for lunch at the Hogs Breath Saloon.

With its balmy weather and crystal blue skies, the island is famous among the outdoors set for
its diving, fishing, watersports and golfing at the nearby Key West Golf Club, a course designed by Rees Jones.
Key West is the gateway to  the uninhabited sand spits and coral formations of Dry Tortugas National Park.
Take a catamaran sailboat tour into the shallow waters and uninhabited keys that frame the island's famous sunsets.
Locals call this area The Lakes, and once there, you can hop onto a kayak and paddle over patch coral formations.
You can even don a snorkel and mask and study the fish, grasses and soft corals.
Some tours will take you all the way to Boca Grande Key, an uninhabited island favored by locals for its white sandy
shoreline and beautiful coral patch reef.

Visit the SouthernMost Point of the Continental U.S.A

Be prepared to stand in line - everyone wants a picture here.

The marker, actually built to resemble a buoy, stands at furthest south tip of Key West.
The monument notes that Cuba is only 90 miles away.

A plaque commemorates the brave Cubans who have drowned trying to get to America,
                                       "The Leader In Democracy."

On the top of the monument is painted the logo of The Conch Republic. Twenty years ago, Key West, seeking to enhance
its reputation as a free-wheeling, fun-loving, party without consequence kind of town, seceded from the United States,
declaring itself The Conch Republic.
